Another grandma-ish item. Its a cream colored hairy yarn sweater I found on Etsy awhile ago. I haven't worn it out yet! Its been in storage. Its so warm, I really should wear it, but this color/texture is demanding, and you need the right outfit, basically.

I found this on Etsy from this one seller that has the most amazing stuff, I swear we are the same person, but if I was her I wouldn't be selling such amazing things, I would keep them! I've bought a couple things from her....I will try to take photos of the items later.

I feel like all my posts are about new bags! Sorry! I've been posting a lot of photos and stuff like that on my Tumblr, its just so much easier on tumblr, and it can be really random, so I like that. Check out my tumblr if you want to see random stuff I take photos of!

So back to the new bag! This is a new style, it has leather handle straps and a zipper closure at the top of the bag.

I need to get more leather!!

Embroidered and Colorblock Clutches

Korean Food

I've been obsessed with Korean food for the past couple years, but this past year I got really obsessed--meaning-- I need to learn how to cook it!!!!

My favorite Korean dish (and favorite dish for the past couple years) is Soondubu Jjigae, which is spicy tofu soup. I made it for the first time the other day, and it came out SO GOOD, exactly like the type you would buy at a Korean restaurant.

I used Maangchi's recipe, if you like Korean food, you should definitely check out her youtube videos and her website, she is so amazing, I wish I was friends with her!!!! The soup requires a zillion ingredients, and most of them are Korean ingredients, you need the Korean ingredients, don't try to make this using alternatives (I tried and it was horrible).

Anyway! I'm so glad I learned how to cook this because there are no Korean places in Greenpoint.

I love the bright colors on this sweater. I think this may be a children's sweater, so its a cropped fit on the body and arms

This is a beautiful bright baby blue color. The yarn is very fine and intricate, i'm not sure what type of yarn is used, but it seems like it took very long to make.

This is a skirt. It does kinda look like a blanket, cause its a chunky yarn. Its sunflowers!

I think this concludes my outrageous granny collection.

Tie Dye Clutch

I just posted this tie dye clutch in my Etsy shop

I have a little bit more of this fabric to make a couple more.

I forgot to mention that all the clutches I make have an interfacing on the inside which makes it stiffer, it makes the fabric more of a medium weight. All of the clutches I've posted on Etsy have this expect for the silver foil clutch.

I also will be adding a color block denim clutch probably tomorrow. I have some other things i'm finishing up and will update soon.

Over the past year I've been collecting "grandma" stuff.

This is a yoyo top, crop top

Yoyo items are often made with scrap fabrics, to use up the little pieces (no wasting). I love this idea of no waste, because there are always little pieces of fabric i'm throwing away.

Its fun to look at each fabric, they are all different types of prints.

Its probably one of the most craziest--"on trend" vintage items i've ever found

It has two pointy collars--layered. Semi sheer sleeves and back, giving a colorblock feeling. Cropped length and tent/flowy silhouette

New Clutches in the Shop

I just added these 3 new clutches to my Etsy Shop.

Metallic Foil Clutch. Only one made!! I love this fabric soooo much. It looks like foil. I also made two "simple totes" with this fabric, that will be finished probably sometime this next week.

This is vintage fabric, its a rose print that looks realistic, thats why I call it the "Photo Rose Print." I only have two of these! One with a cream zipper and one with a black zipper.

This is also vintage fabric. I have a little more of this fabric so I can make a couple of them.

I have a few more stuff i'm going to finish soon and hopefully post more next week!

New Bag Styles in the Shop!

I just added two new totes to my Etsy shop. Its called the "Simple Tote," its just a very basic tote with one pocket on the outside and hand straps. It looks like the "Everyday Tote," but this one is larger, has only one strap and no zipper pocket on the outside. I had a "unisex" feeling in mind for these.

This is a beautiful green/blue flannel with canvas backing, I also lined it with blue cotton. I LOVE this fabric, but unfortunately couldn't obtain much of it because it sold out. So this is the only one made.

This is a grayish blue denim with a wax-like feeling

Best part of this bag is the polka dot lining!!!!!! i'm not sure if its "unisex" friendly? Men, let me know.

I will have some plain linings added to some.

I'm in the process of finishing more of these in different fabrics and also more clutches are coming soon, hopefully by this weekend!

I was going through my blog and looked back at my 2011 resolutions, here they are:

2011 Resolutions:

1. Eat and use more healthy, organic, chemical-free products/food

2. Work on my sewing stuff more!

3. Blog more, whoops! so hard! Check my Tumblr, i'm on there more

4. Be more productive

5. Save money!

I'm happy to say that I succeeded one goal, resolution #1, eating more organic and healthy food! The rest of the res's...still working on them!

Here are my new 2012 resolutions!
1. Learn more sewing/design techniques
2. Exercise
3. Cut down on sugar foods
4. Stop eating packaged/processed foods
5. Read more

Thats all I can think of right now. I think the most important resolution is to cut down on all the sugar I eat!!! I didn't realize how much sugar i've been eating until this past year. Some people have talked to me about my bad eating habits, but I ignored them of course.

I cooked rib roast again this year, like every year.

I kind of didn't want to this year, but I was craving it. I usually just do this once a year.

I use my mom's recipe, its very easy, its basically all the veg's above with

oil, garlic, onion, season salt, and sea salt

Then you just pile it all up and cook it

I also made mac and cheese, I couldn't believe this was gone in 3 days!!!

I really thought I was going to have to freeze some of this.

My mom bought me a shoyu set, its a good thing I like shoyu!!!!

This probably won't last very long too!

Snacks...I literally finished the iso peanuts in one night, they are very addicting

Zipper time!

I ordered some zipper yardage and parts and they arrived yesterday!! I'm so excited to make my own zippers, I had no idea that zipper yardage was available for sale, until I read Rennes/Julia's (amazing bag/clothing designer) blog post about making zippers. I've shortened zippers before by myself, but had no idea that MAKING your own zipper was possible--I find that sad, because i've been sewing almost all my life, went to design school, interned at many companies, and practically live in the garment district. Funny story--one time I was shortening a zipper and I lost the top/stop of it, so I needed this little part (it flew in the air), then I actually saw zipper stops at one of the sew supply stores and I wondered why they sell huge bags of it...cause I just needed ONE...and I asked the girl for one, and she said no! Its dumb how I just didn't catch on to the idea. Anyway! I'm glad to have gone through Rennes blog and read that useful information! If you are interested in design/sewing process you should really read her blog!

I've been gone for almost one year from this blog! I've been preoccupied with other things happening, sorry! I still post on my tumblr often, but I will try to blog here more.

I'm starting to make new bags/things again, I kinda went on hiatus when school started in January, my previous semester was so stressful, so I had to put a halt to design/making stuff.

Heres some stuff i'm working on: (I've posted a lot of these photos on tumblr already...)

Clutches: I didn't think I would like clutches at all when they starting popping up. I'm usually a "big bag" girl, but I LOVE THEM now, they are very simple and a nice surprise of color (if you get it in a color).

I have a few yards of this linen leopard fabric, so I think I will be making more?

Rope Things?: I like playing with rope shapes, its kind of fun, but time consuming! I've added this gray necklace to my etsy shop.

This is a daisy belt i'm working on

Leather: I made this clutch with some silver leather I had laying around. I'm always scared to sew leather because if you mess up than its basically screwed. Sorry my chipping nail polish looks freaky.

More rope stuff! I've been working on this clutch since 2 years ago and finally put it together. I used an vintage cashmere turtleneck for the base, and put in a canvas lining for more stability. The rope design is just a random freestyle.

I closed down my website laulaunyc.com because I didn't like my "webhost". I just have my Etsy shop for now, and I'm probably going to make a "BigCartel" shop soon. I'll try to post more stuff that i'm making, etc, more updates later!

Wow, I haven't wrote here for 2 months! I've been busy to the 110th power. Its hard to have a blog and be a blogger, I really give props to bloggers that blog daily/weekly.

I cooked again for Thanksgiving, I always do, I actually enjoy it though. Anyway it was a small gathering and Freida came over! I haven't seen her in awhile, cause of school/work/etc...so I was so happy to see her. She is so fun and entertaining, I have to hang out with her more!

Mac and cheese, this is the first time i've ever made it and it was so good, I semi followed a recipe from Tyler Florence, its so heart attack though, like tons of cheese/butter/milk, but so good, and I was almost about to buy the Whole Foods version for $20+!

my brother bought pies from Fairway, and this berry pie was so good!!

I always love the holiday times with good food and hanging with friends and family, I wish it was monthly instead of just November and December!

Fashion Night Out!

I decided to check out some events last night for Fashion's Night Out. Almost every store had something going on, but its hard to go to every store when your taking the subway! So I decided to just check out Barneys and Opening Ceremony.

After Barneys, headed over to Opening Ceremony and the line was so massive, i'm surprised people were waiting in it!! But they had a few booths and food trucks selling stuff outside. And a super cute polka dot Colette Truck and the owner of Colette was out there too!!

I recently bought a bike!, biking is very popular in New York, I never thought I would be one of the bikers here though...cause I have been very terrified of biking... just very paranoid of getting into an accident or something like that. But i'm a very slow moving elderly-style biker, so I'm not as worried. I made a few bike trips these past weeks, Greenpoint to Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Dumbo/Brooklyn Heights, and Queens/Long Island City. Not only that, i've been able to finally see most of my neighborhood! and other neighborhoods! I actually want to make longer trips...like to Coney Island...but i'm a little scared to do that, cause its a long trip...but we'll see!

I'm so in love with my wicker bike basket...I actually bought it before buying my bike, and I think that is what pushed me to try biking! haha

Anyway, it took me 3 years to finally buy a bike here, and that is too long, if your going to live in New York, (or anywhere actually) I say buy a bike immediately!!

I was listening to the radio the other day and Nada Surf "Popular" came on! I was so excited and confused as to why it was playing on the radio, its not one of my favorite songs, but it reminds me of being a teenager listening to Radio Free Hawaii--the best radio station ever, which has been gone for awhile.

Anyway I looked up Radio Free and found a list of Radio Free's top 300 songs...

My hair is so long!! I want to cut it but a lot of people like it long, I personally feel a little gross having it so long, because its very damaged...I want to go back short, or shoulder length, i'm a little scared because it has been awhile since its been so short. With the summer coming up, I think I will do it!

I'm really in love with the Sonia Rykiel Frizzy look!!! its so fun looking! I think you might need thinner hair to do this. My hair is half-thin, half-thick (its complicated)...idk, but I want to try this!

I was browsing Etsy one day and came upon this Pattern by Alfred Shaheen, it looked so familiar, then I remembered that I found the exact butterfly fabric at the thrift store (in Hawaii). I was so surprised to realize that this fabric was made from a Hawaii designer long ago! I don't know much about Hawaii designers of the past, but this seems to be one designer from Hawaii that I really like!

I looked up some info on Alfred Shaheen, the company closed in 1988 and they have a website that sells some of their vintage items. His history is very interesting, please follow the link if you want to read more. I had no idea that he and his company existed, and i'm wondering why my teachers (in Hawaii) never told us about him?

Here she is, i'm cracking up on the side...we were playing with a projector, you just had to be there to understand how funny it was. I'm really excited that she has moved here, I asked her if she plans to ever move back to Hawaii, she was like, "hell no" actually she didn't say that, but she is not going to ever go back. The most shocking thing that she told me that day was that she left her Jaguar in the parking lot in back of her shop! she just left it! It was an amazing beautiful car! aaahh...But that is the price you have to pay to move away :(

Worst Nightmare

My worst nightmare came true yesterday...it actually isn't that bad, but to me, it is...I cut into a dress that came in the mail! I order a lot of stuff through the internet and it usually comes in plastic packages. Usually I use good judgement when cutting them open, but sometimes it can be hard to tell! This dress happened to be double packed, so it was hard to judge what I was cutting. Luckily, I only cut into the ribbon belt of this dress...which can be easily replaceable.

I'm still pissed about it though! It is a hassle to replace the ribbon...I have to go to the garment district, look for a match, take off the ribbon on the dress, sew the new one on...it could have been easily avoided. That's why I prefer boxes to packages...It is more bulk and may be more expensive but it is safer for dresses and most likely will not get cut into.

Anywayz, be careful guys!!!

The Rodarte exhibit is amazing!!!!!!!! As god is my witness I will learn how to knit like that!! (maybe...hopefully....hope so?...maybe not). Most of the garments on display looked extremely delicate, how do you wear without breaking it? I think they would look great in a movie...sci fi or fantasy!!! I'm waiting for it to be in a movie. My fav's were def the knitted ones.

When I first started my fashion design classes at HCC back in '98 (yeah, a long time ago) I had no favorite designers, I liked stuff but didn't really know or care who made it. That all changed when I saw Alexander McQueens designs. I was obsessed with his insane collections and his super elaborate theatrical fashion shows.

Things that stand out for me:

The wooden wings!! When I lived in Seattle I was able to see the wings in person!! They were at the Bellevue Arts Museum...It was amazing.

I bought a ton of ghost/horror comic books a couple months ago, I basically loved the covers and thought they would be good bed time reading. Turns out they are nothing like the covers! The story on the insides are so boring and doesn't even relate to the covers, isn't it weird? I still love the covers though, its worth it I guess.

Oh, and two small bags of seed! haha, looks like some kind of drug paraphernalia. Well, this is a new seed and my sister wanted me to try it before she bought a big bag. We are very picky about are seeds!! :) they all taste different!! we like ours soft.

And a bunch of nuts, the Kona Coffee Glazed is pretty awesome.

I heard/read this wasn't a good exhibit, but I thought it was really awesome! and huge! There were tons and tons of drawings, a couple TVs playing cartoon shorts, and lots of toys/figurines/sculptures, and best of all costumes!!!!!

I just finished watching seasons 1 & 2 of Skins, a teenage drama from the BBC. Its a crazy show about high school kids and problems they all go through, like gossip girl but way more provocative and interesting. What I liked about this show the most was seeing Cassie's outfits!!

She wears the cutest stuff. I'm pretty much obsessed with this skirt, which looks like it has some kind of animal on it.

A gang of squirrels were chasing me for a bit, its so scary to be chased by a squirrel!

Its been a lonnnng time, I've been really lazy to blog and busy with school stuff

WELL, I'm finally going to have a little photoshoot w/my brother for my bags this week, hope it doesn't rain!! Here is a pic of one of them I took:

It a drawstring denim w/chain straps. I have about 5 diff bags I made. I will post more pictures by next week. I think I will be opening an etsy shop in addition to my web shop.

I haven't been doing much fun things lately...but I FINALLY went to the Cooper-Hewitt museum last Saturday...its hard to go all the way UP to the Upper East Side...don't ask me why, its just a trek! The Cooper-Hewitt offered free admission last week so I took advantage of it! Its a great museum for fashion designers, architects, just any kind of artist, its inspiring! Many of the items on display are sustainable and smartly designed. They had a couple fashion designers pieces, Maria Cornejo, Isabel Toledo, Issac Mizrahi, and others...all their pieces were amazing and I want them!!!! Issac Mizrahi made a dress out of Salmon leather!! its weird because it is salmon skin--made into leather?!!! who knew??? And it didn't smell like fish! Anyway everyone must go check it out! And a HUGE plus...the gift shop is possibly the best store ever...I wanted everything. After the museum I went across to Central Park...it was a bit rainy/foggy, but pretty!

A couple weeks ago a caught one of the free shows at the "Pool" Parties, which is now on Williamsburg's waterfront...its so much better there than McCarran park!! Its really beautiful with the water and the city in the background.

There was a police boat getting close to the park, they wanted to know what was going on...

This was a really nice cool day...a cloud covered the sun for most of the day!! I felt so lucky!

Saw these today in williamsburg...they look like Hibiscus, but i'm not sure

And I was freaking out a little when I saw these sunflowers!! Sunflowers in brooklyn!!, I just thought it was weird!

This bike was chained on the pole, I thought it was a fancy street art peice...my brother corrected me, its a memorial for someone who died on their bike at that spot.

I watched this movie the other night, its an old samurai-ish revenge flick that was made popular by Quentin Tarantino (it inspired kill bill). I love the kimonos the girl wore in this movie...so pretty and overall the whole film had lots of beautiful scenery and sets.

I've been so sad about Michael Jackson dying! His music brings back so many memories. Me and my brother would watch that movie he made, like a million times, the one with the bunny & claymation, I forget what its called (found it on youtube!, its called Moonwalker). Anyways its very sad and I wish I saw him in concert before he left.

I had no idea Jason Schwartzman had a new band until I saw the vid posted on Perez Hilton

The music vids are so cute, the first one "Microphone" opens w/a snoring dog....

and the second "Any Fun" has cameos w/Mark Gonzales and Chloe Sevingly!

So I thought he just started his band, but he actually came out with the 1st coconut album/Nighttiming in 2007!...I went on itunes and bought both of them, Nighttiming & the second/lastest: Davy. Its really good!

Nighttiming also has guest vocals of Kristen Dunst and Zooey Deschanel. I kind of cringed when I saw that Kristen Dunst is on one of the songs (Summer Day), but its actually really cute and sweet...its a bit silly.

These two (above) were designed by Stephen Jones for Marc Jacobs.

While looking up Stephen Jones I found that he just had a show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Museum Shop is selling some of his hats.

There are some other hats they are selling which are cheaper and I was about to get this hat (above), its only $20, but its $20 in shipping...so i just couldn't deal with that

This is at the shop also, made by a different designer...just love it!
